A building contractor in Southampton you can actually get hold of
The most common complaint about builders is not price — it is silence. Not knowing who is coming, when, or what is happening this week. We run every project with a named project manager who is your single point of contact from the first site visit through to handover.
- Trading since 2010 — founded by Adrian Royle and still run the same way
- Which? Trusted Trader and Checkatrade member, with public review profiles you can read before you call
- £2m public liability and £10m employer's liability insurance in place
- DBS-checked tradespeople working in your home
- Itemised written quotations — you see the cost of every element, not a single number
- Planning and building control handled, including the applications and the inspections
Four steps from first call to finished build
No mystery, no surprises. You know what happens next at every stage.
Free site visit
We come out, measure up, look at the structure and the drains, and talk through what you are trying to achieve — including the cheaper options.
Itemised quotation
A written quotation broken down by element, with a realistic programme attached. You can adjust the specification rather than the budget.
Design & approvals
Drawings, structural calculations, permitted development checks or a planning application, and the building regulations submission.
Build & handover
One project manager, weekly updates, inspections booked as we go, and a proper snagging walk-through with the certificates at the end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions Southampton homeowners ask us most often.
What areas does your building company cover around Southampton?
We are based in Bitterne Park and work throughout Southampton — Bitterne, Woolston, Sholing, Portswood, Highfield, Bassett, Shirley, Millbrook and the city centre — as well as the wider Hampshire area including Eastleigh, Chandler's Ford, Hedge End, Romsey, Totton, Winchester and out towards the New Forest. Our full list of towns and villages is on the coverage page.
How much does a house extension cost in Southampton?
There is no honest single figure, because the cost depends on the size of the extension, ground conditions, how much glazing you want, the level of finish and whether services need moving. What we can promise is a written, itemised quotation after a free site visit, so you can see exactly what each element costs before you commit to anything. We would rather talk you out of a specification you cannot afford than surprise you halfway through the build.
Do I need planning permission for an extension or garage conversion?
Many single-storey rear extensions and most garage conversions fall under permitted development rights and do not need a full planning application — but that depends on the size, the height, how close you are to a boundary, and whether your property sits in a conservation area or has had permitted development rights removed. Building regulations approval is a separate requirement and applies to almost all structural work. We check the position with Southampton City Council or the relevant borough council before any work is priced, and we can handle the applications and building control for you.
Are you insured and accredited?
Yes. iFit Homes Ltd holds £2 million public liability and £10 million employer's liability cover. We are a Which? Trusted Trader and a Checkatrade member, and our tradespeople are DBS checked. You can read verified customer feedback on our Which? Trusted Traders profile and our Checkatrade profile.
How long does a typical project take?
A kitchen or bathroom refit is usually a matter of weeks. A single-storey rear extension typically runs to a couple of months on site once groundworks begin, and a loft conversion or a whole-house renovation longer again. Weather, planning and building control inspections and material lead times all play a part. We give you a realistic programme with your quotation, and your project manager tells you straight away if anything is likely to shift.
Do you provide free quotations?
Yes — site visits and written quotations are free and carry no obligation. We will come out, measure up, talk through what you are trying to achieve and set out the options, including the cheaper ones. If you only want advice at this stage, that is fine too.
Can you help with design and drawings?
We can. We carry out the site survey, produce sketch layouts and work with architects and structural engineers where a project needs full drawings and calculations. If you already have plans drawn up, we are happy to price and build from them.
Do you take on commercial work as well as homes?
Yes. Alongside domestic extensions and renovations we carry out shop and office refurbishment, strip-outs, stud and demountable partitions and suspended ceilings for commercial clients across Southampton and Hampshire. We work around trading hours where we can to keep disruption down.
Who will actually be on site?
Our own team, led by a named project manager who is your single point of contact from the first site visit to the final handover. Where a project needs a specialist — a structural engineer, a gas-safe engineer, a specific trade — we bring in people we have worked with for years rather than whoever is available.
How do I get started?
Call us on 02380 559 597 or 07703 235 135, email enquiries@ifit-homes.co.uk, or use the enquiry form to request a callback. Tell us roughly what you have in mind and where you are, and we will arrange a visit at a time that suits you.
